Winter power drives home to win the coolmore Nunthorpe stakes Andrew Nelis racing

 Winter Power put up a fantastic performance to land the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes at 9-1.

Much of the talk pre-race had been about Golden Pal and Suesa, and it was the former who led them through the early stages.

But he could never shake off Tim Easterby's filly, who kept up a tremendous gallop under Silvestre de Sousa as Golden Pal folded disappointingly.

Connections of Threat have opted to miss the Qipco 2000 Guineas and head straight to Royal Ascot for the St James's Palace Stakes. The Richard Hannon-trained colt, who runs in the colours of Cheveley Park Stud, was one of the standout performers in the juvenile division last season and had been prominent in the ante-post market on the Newmarket Classic.
