Gosden wary of the talented Poetic flare Andrew Nelis racing

John Gosden is not expecting Palace Pier to get things entirely his own way as he faces an “elite” field in defence of the Group One Prix Jacques le Marois title. Gosden's four-year-old returns to Deauville on Sunday, live on  Sky Sports Racing , after recovering from a blood disorder that saw him miss the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Jim Bolger's 2000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare, who found Alcohol Free one too good for him at Goodwood last month, looks the main danger to Palace Pier.                    Andrew Nelis racing

Charlie split over Guineas pair Andrew Nelis

Charlie Appleby is finding it tough to split Master Of The Seas and One Ruler in their respective bids for Qipco 2000 Guineas glory. The Newmarket handler would love to win the Rowley Mile Classic for the first time on Saturday - and feels his two leading contenders give him a strong chance of doing so. William Buick has sided with Master Of The Seas following his course-and-distance triumph in the Craven Stakes little over a fortnight ago, leaving James Doyle to pick up the ride on One Ruler on his seasonal reappearance.        Andrew Nelis racing news and reviews

Dry spell will Aid the thunder

Joseph O'Brien is one trainer who does not want the current dry spell to end as he believes it will aid Thunder Moon's chances in the Qipco 2000 Guineas. An impressive winner of the National Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend on just his second start - where recent Craven victor Master Of The Seas was fourth - the Zoffany colt finished third in the Dewhurst on his final outing. While he was not disgraced behind St Mark's Basilica and Wembley, both trained by his father Aidan O'Brien, the former champion jockey feels faster ground could help him turn the tables.              Andrew Nelis racing news .

Andrew balding bullish on Kamekos in the Juddmonte Andrew Nelis racing

Andrew Balding is confident 2000 Guineas hero Kameko can play a major role in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York, providing he stays the trip. The son of Kitten’s Joy will make his first start over a mile and a quarter in Wednesday’s Group One showpiece, after connections decided to swerve this weekend’s alternative in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville. While Kameko, who finished fourth in the Derby on his penultimate start, still has his stamina to prove, the Kingsclere handler believes 10 furlongs may prove his optimum distance. Balding said: “The decision not to run in France was down to two things. “There was ground – because they had a lot of rain – which may have been unsuitable for him, and then there was the restrictions on jockeys (travelling and returning from France), so we decided to give him a go over a mile and a quarter. “We always thought this would be his trip, but you never know until you try. “He shaped like a mile was his trip (when fourth...

Aidan Obrien Double darts targeted for Epsom Andrew Nelis

Aidan O'Brien could look to Epsom with both Love and Peaceful, winners of the English and Irish 1000 Guineas respectively. Love currently heads the ante-post market for the Investec Oaks on July 4 following her comprehensive Newmarket victory, while Peaceful is as low as 4-1 with some firms after claiming the Curragh Classic last weekend. O'Brien initially entered Peaceful for Saturday's Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, but ruled out a quick return with a step up in trip to either 12 furlongs for the English Oaks or 10 furlongs in the Prix de Diane on July 5 on the radar.

Siskin Hot property right now as sales are on fire Andrew Nelis

Leading owner-breeder Prince Khalid Abdullah has sold the breeding rights to his Irish 2,000 Guineas hero  Siskin , his racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe has confirmed. Having rounded off an unbeaten juvenile campaign with a Group One victory in the Phoenix Stakes last August, the Ger Lyons-trained colt was a hot favourite for last Friday’s Irish Classic at the Curragh and ran out an impressive winner in the hands of Colin Keane. While Abdullah traditionally breeds from his own stallions through his Juddmonte Farms operation, Siskin will not be joining the likes of Frankel, Oasis Dream and Kingman after the curtain comes down on his racing career

Kinross connections bullish over 2000 Guineas

Harry Bentley believes Kinross is capable of providing him with a first Classic success in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday. The 27-year-old will renew his partnership with the Ralph Beckett-trained colt at the scene of his emphatic debut victory in October. Despite Kinross tasting defeat upped to Group One company in the Verterm Futurity Trophy at Newcastle on his final start of last year, Bentley retains plenty of faith in the son of Kingman.

British Horse racing Authority cautious on new rules Andrew Nelis

Brant Dunshea, the British Horseracing Authority's chief regulatory officer, expects to keep in close contact with the Government in order to ensure the sport's continued compliance with measures designed to combat coronavirus. Racing resumed behind closed doors at Newcastle on Monday, with the BHA having issued a 33-page protocols document with which participants must comply.

Racecourses to be supplied with PPE BHA states! Andrew Nelis

The BHA is working with international medical supplies company CHB Medical to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to racecourses in order to ensure racing can safely restart on Monday.  British racecourses will be stocked with the potentially life-saving equipment, with specialist 'back to racing' packs being distributed for the sport's resumption. The packs include coveralls, face masks, gloves, goggles, hand sanitisers, infrared thermometers and visors. The PPE is sourced internationally and is expected to be delivered to tracks hosting action in the first week of resumption this weekend. The BHA last week released a 33-page document detailing safety guidelines for when racing returns behind closed doors on June 1. It states that jockeys, stable staff, stalls handlers and security staff are among the people that are requested to  wear face coverings . The document also states that employers are responsible...

BHA hopeful for 1st June Andrew Nelis racing

Brant Dunshea, chief regulatory officer at the British Horseracing Authority, has expressed his confidence that racing will be able to resume in Britain on June 1. Racing was last staged on March 17 and the Government announced earlier this month that no professional sport, even behind closed doors, would take place before June 1 at the earliest.

Pinatubo on comeback trail Charlie Aplleby Andrew Nelis racing

Charlie Appleby believes last season's juvenile sensation Pinatubo is bigger and stronger as the unbeaten son of Sharmadal prepares to embark on his highly anticipated Classic campaign, starting in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas. Pinatubo comes into the season following a dazzling two-year-old campaign, in which his six wins earned him a rating higher than Frankel achieved at that stage of his career. And he will look to emulate the greats when starting the season in the 2,000 Guineas, the first Classic of the  rescheduled calendar  on June 6. The Godolphin star is a top-priced 6-5 favourite for the race with Sky Bet. He is also entered in the Investec Derby – for which he is as short as 6-1 – although no plans were confirmed for targets after the Guineas. Watch Pinatubo's nine-length Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes win Appleby retains faith in his juvenile ace and believes he will be in perfect shape for his date with destiny, al...

Military march Guns primed Andrew Nelis racing

Saeed bin Suroor reports Military March on course to tackle the Qipco 2000 Guineas before a crack at the Investec Derby. No racing has taken place in Britain since March 17, but plans are in place for a June 1 restart subject to Government approval – with the 2000 and 1000 Guineas to be held over the opening weekend at Newmarket, on June 6 and 7 respectively. A son of New Approach, Military March was unbeaten in two starts as a juvenile, culminating in a half-length success over Al Suhail in the Autumn Stakes on the Rowley Mile in October, with the pair well clear of useful yardstick Ropey Guest. Bin Suroor said: “We’ve waited for a long time (to restart), from what I’ve seen in France this week it’s been really organised, the jockeys wear masks and it’s been very good. “My horses are ready to go, they have been for a long time, but because the programme hasn’t been really clear we don’t like to push them, because nothing was clear. “If racing starts on June 1 it is a clear ...

BHI Hancock stating on racing return

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has spoken positively about hopes the resumption of racing in Britain might not be too far away following its suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic. The last meetings to take place in Britain were at Wetherby and Taunton on March 17, both behind closed doors. The British Horseracing Authority has been making plans for a return when Government is approval is given, with meetings to take place on the Flat and behind closed doors. Two high-profile weekends have been pencilled in for Classic trials at the end of May, with the Guineas meeting set to take place on the first weekend in June, should a "best-case scenario" come to fruition.
