Johnny Murtagh lands a treble good day at the office Andrew Nelis racing

The Irish EBF Supporting Champions Weekend Fillies’ Maiden (Div I) saw 9/4 favourite Laggata lead a furlong from home and outstay the morning market leader Orchid Gardens by a length and three quarters. A step up on trip was always likely to suit the daughter of Soldier Hollow out of a Monsun mare and she was within her comfort zone throughout. Rated 82 after three previous outings including a runner-up finish over 7f at Roscommon, Danny Sheehy’s 5lb claim was handy too as he partnered his 8th winner of the season. Winning trainer Johnny Murtagh, saddling his third winner of the afternoon at combined odds of 437/1, said: “I’m delighted for the Irish National Stud racing syndicate. They had one horse with us earlier in the year that didn’t work out and in fairness to Cathal Beale he picked this one out. “I was a little bit disappointed with her the last day over a mile. Ben Coen rode her and said step her up to a mile and two. Hopefully she can improve on this and be competit...

Johnny Murtaghs Fillie Champer Elyees wins at Galway Andrew Nelis racing

Champers Elysees proved more than able for the step up in class to Listed company in Galway. Punters factored in the red-hot form of her trainer, Johnny Murtagh, in sending her off 15/8 favourite for his seven-furlong test for fillies . Inhale set an honest pace as Ben Coen and Champers Elysees kept an eye on her in fourth. When Coen asked his mount to go after the horses in front of her out of the dip, the response was immediate at the two pole where she improved to second. Inhale was soon swallowed up approaching the home bend as Champers Elysees strode away. She drew further and further clear in the final furlong to prevail by seven lengths....                       Andrew Nelis Racing

Rocky landed a blow to rivals at Limerick Andrew Nelis Racing

Call Me Rocky was a warm order for division two of the LimerickRaces.ie maiden over a mile, and Shane Kelly kept it simple off the front. The pair were always to the fore and went for home inside the final two furlongs. Call Me Rocky (11/8 favourite) stuck to his task to fend off 11/2 shot Big White Chief by a length and quarter. Thaleeq (9/4) kept on in third, a neck away. Johnny Murtagh said: "He is a big baby and is better back at that trip; there were no maidens for him at that trip when he ran him at Roscommon so we had to start him at 1m2f and he was fresh. "He was back at this trip on this ground, and it suited him, and he was sure to come on from the run the last day...

Johnny Murtagh on high spirits as winners fly in Andrew Nelis racing

The astounding form of the Johnny Murtagh horses continued in the Sobac Soil Health Call Tom Stapleton From Soil.ie Handicap at Naas as Kosman scored under Shane B Kelly. Kosman reversed Roscommon form from last Monday with Slieve Bearnagh and Golden Days, and a first-time visor obviously did him no harm at all.. From the front he beat Sweet Justice and the aforementioned Golden Days by a length and a quarter and the same. Johnny Murtagh said: “I hope this week doesn’t end! “I was disappointed with him a bit the other day in Roscommon as he’s after strengthening up nicely. He’s not a big horse but I thought he’d done well over the winter and he was working with the bunch that have all been running well. “Going to Roscommon I was expecting a big run but he got a bump early and Ben said he didn’t seem to enjoy it. “I stuck the visor on him today and Shane was keen to bowl along as that’s what he does in his work at home and he seems to work well. It all worked well and...
