National stakes sandown for eye of Heaven to make amends Andrew Nelis

Royal Ascot disappointment  Eye Of Heaven  bids to redeem his reputation in the National Stakes at Sandown on Thursday. The Exceed And Excel colt justified market confidence with an impressive racecourse debut at Newmarket in early June – beating, among others, the Queen’s subsequent Windsor Castle and July Stakes winner Tactical. Off the back of that performance,  Mark Johnston ’s juvenile was unsurprisingly all the rage for the Norfolk Stakes, but had to settle for ninth in the hands of  Frankie Dettori  and drops to Listed class for her latest assignment...                         Andrew Nelis racing

PJ mcDonald clocks up his 1000th win above Zabeel at Newmarket Andrew Nelis

A delighted PJ McDonald rode the 1,000th winner of his versatile career in Britain when Zabeel Champion struck at Newmarket on Friday. The Mark Johnston-trained runner's victory was McDonald's 963rd on the Flat in Britain to go with his 37 strikes over jumps. He has also won four races on the Flat in Ireland, but they do not count towards his domestic total. Only one of McDonald's 1,000 winners in Britain has been in a Group 1, when Laurens gamely won the 2017 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket. However, McDonald added further top-level success in France the following season on the tenacious filly, winning the 2018 Prix de Diane. The former jump jockey has also ridden Invincible Army, Havana Grey, Hey Gaman, Duke Of Hazzard and Far Above to Group-level success in recent seasons..                         Andrew Nelis Racing .

It proved a memorable one, as Shamardal landed the French 2000 Guineas, French Derby and the St James's Palace Stakes, in the year Royal Ascot was held at York. His only defeat in seven career outings came on dirt at Nad Al Sheba in the UAE
