Battaash wins the Coolmore Nunthorpe stakes in fine style Andrew Nelis

Battaash continued his brilliant sprinting CV with a hard-fought victory in defence of his Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes crown at York. Charlie Hills' speedster had to defy rain-softened ground which put hopes of bettering the course record he set last year off the agenda. He also faced an unexpectedly stern challenge from outsider Que Amoro, before getting firmly on top in the final furlong to land the odds as the 1-2 favourite and see off the 22-1 runner-up by a length..                   Andrew Nelis Racing

Battaash is set to face six opponents as he bids for his fourth successive King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood. Khadeem for the Darley Newmarket Andrew Nelis

Khaadem is set to go for the Darley July Cup at Newmarket following his encouraging effort in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. The Charlie Hills-trained sprinter had to settle for fourth place in the Group One behind Hello Youmzain after travelling as well as anything two furlongs from home. The ease in the ground may not have suited Khaadem, and connections for hoping for quicker conditions on Saturday week. “The plan at the moment is to go to Newmarket,” said Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum. “He ran well at Ascot. He was a bit fresh. The ground was a little bit too easy for him, arguably, but it didn’t quite go his way — without making excuses.                        Andrew Nelis Racing

Battash lashes the field at Ascot

Battaash made it third-time lucky as he lifted the King's Stand Stakes. It was just reward for the Charlie Hills-trained speedster after finishing second to Blue Point in the previous two runnings of the Group One showpiece. The 5-6 favourite broke smartly and was always travelling smoothly in the hands of Jim Crowley, who was completing a double after his earlier victory on Motakhayyel.
