Racing resumption: William Buick eager to get back to the daily routine Wed 27 May 2020 William Buick  is looking forward to the prospect of racing resuming in Britain next week. The British Horseracing Authority is planning for a restart on Monday, subject to Government approval, and Buick has a big-race ride to look forward to on the opening weekend as Pinatubo will go for gold in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. No racing has taken place in Britain since March 17, but Buick says he is ready for action. “I’ve been keeping fit as I would normally, riding out most days and I’ve got a gym set up at home. That’s been good for keeping fit, so that’s something I’m not really worried about,” he said. “I am looking forward to getting back to the daily routine.” The BHA published a 33-page document last Saturday outlining the protocols for a return to racing following the coronavirus shutdown. Group one star and great Stallion Shamardal dies age 18 Andrew Nelis

Multiple Group One winner and renowned stallion Shamardal has died at the age of 18 as a result of recent health issues. Trained by Mark Johnston to win the Vintage Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes as a two-year-old, the son of Giant's Causeway joined Saeed bin Suroor in the Godolphin colours for his three-year-old season. It proved a memorable one, as Shamardal landed the French 2000 Guineas, French Derby and the St James's Palace Stakes, in the year Royal Ascot was held at York. His only defeat in seven career outings came on dirt at Nad Al Sheba in the UAE
