Ghaiyyath simply awesome winning the international stakes at York Andrew Nelis racing

Ghaiyyath took his brilliant winning run to three Group Ones this season by repelling all challengers in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York. Charlie Appleby's front-runner led throughout once again as he saw off a top-class five-strong field to win by three lengths as the 11-8 favourite, under William Buick..                      Andrew Nelis Racing

Juddmonte for Charlie Applebys charge Ghaiyyath Andrew Nelis Racing

Ghaiyyath is set to tackle next month's Juddmonte International at York before a possible second crack at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in the autumn. Charlie Appleby's five-year-old tried to make all in the ParisLongchamp feature last October before dropping away, but he has been in stellar form so far this term. After winning a Group Three in Dubai in March, Ghaiyyath has made a glorious European return - blazing to victory in the Coronation Cup before lowering the colours of Enable in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown....

Pinatubo back to winning ways at Deauville Andrew Nelis

Pinatubo got back on the winning trail with a stylish victory in the Qatar Prix Jean Prat at Deauville. Charlie Appleby's stable star was crowned last season's champion two-year-old after an unbeaten six-race campaign - and was unsurprisingly all the rage for last month's 2000 Guineas. However, the Shamardal colt could finish only third in the Rowley Mile Classic and suffered another defeat at Royal Ascot - filling the runner-up spot behind Palace Pier in the St James's Palace Stakes. Dropped to seven furlongs for what appeared a gilt-edged opportunity to add a Group One as a three-year-old to his CV, Pinatubo was the 1/2 favourite in the hands of William Buick - but odds-on backers were made to sweat before eventually collecting their winnings. While always travelling strongly, Pinatubo found himself stuck in a pocket for the first half of the race as he tracked fellow British raider Molatham. However, once the gap came, the Godolphin-owned colt quickly mo...

Master of the seas will weather the waves in the group 2 at Newmarket

Charlie Appleby believes Master Of The Seas can handle the step up from maiden company to Group Two level in the bet365 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket. The Godolphin trainer was not surprised by the way the Dubawi colt performed when making a winning debut at Newmarket three weeks ago, and can see him making his mark on Saturday. “He has come out of his last race well,” said Appleby. “Looking at them on paper, they have all either just broken their maidens or won novices, so we felt he wouldn’t look out of place...

Pinutobo to have a crack at the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville sunday France

Pinatubo bids to get back to winning ways after a couple of near misses when he goes for the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville on Sunday. Last year's champion European two-year-old has just fallen short in both the 2000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes. Those races were over a mile and connections of the Charlie Appleby-trained colt are dropping him down to seven furlongs in the hope of him regaining winning ways. Four of his six victories were over that trip in 2019..

Bocaccio edges out the Betway Handicap at Newmarket Andrew Nelis

Boccaccio demonstrated the best of his battling abilities to maintain his unbeaten record with a tenacious success in the Betway Handicap at Newmarket. Not sighted since landing a novice event at Kempton in November, the Dubawi colt continued his progression with victory on his seasonal return in the seven-furlong contest. Despite being headed late on by eventual runner-up Gifted Ruler, the Charlie Appleby-trained 13-8 favourite rallied close to the line to prevail by a short head.                       Andrew Nelis Racing

Connections pleased with the improvement and Maturity in Ghaiyyath Andrew Nelis

Charlie Appleby believes Ghaiyyath has matured as his mouthwatering clash with Enable in next Sunday's Coral-Eclipse nears. Seen as a bit of a tearaway in his younger days, the five-year-old has nonetheless won seven of his 10 races - including two Group Ones. His only below-par run came in last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe when he faced competition for the lead on very soft ground.                       Andrew Nelis racing

Charlie Appleby eyes Melbourne cup with the Cross Andrew Nelis racing

Up to £40 in free bets Charlie Appleby is dreaming of a second Melbourne Cup success with Cross Counter after taking encouragement from his performance in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. The five-year-old became the first British-trained winner of the ‘race that stops a nation’ when striking gold in 2018 – and was beaten just a length and a half in eighth place when defending his Flemington crown in November. Cross Counter disappointed when hot favourite for a valuable staying handicap on the undercard of the Saudi Cup in February, but Appleby was pleased with his third place in Thursday’s Ascot feature – albeit beaten a long way by the brilliant Stradivarius. Coronation cup Newmarket friday 2020

Ghaiyyath tops a select field of seven for Friday's Hurworth Bloodstock Coronation Cup at Newmarket - the first British Group One in 2020. The 12-furlong contest has been switched from its usual home at Epsom due to the impact of the coronavirus shutdown on the regular calendar, but it has still drawn a top-class line-up. Ghaiyyath, who is trained by Charlie Appleby, was a 14-length winner of a German Group One last year and after disappointing in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, he bounced back with a bloodless win at Meydan in February h

John Quinn ready to unleash his stars Andrew Nelis

John Quinn has every reason to look forward to an exciting campaign when racing hopefully restarts next week. The Malton trainer was among the winners before the coronavirus shutdown brought the sport to a halt in mid-March - and hopes to resume where he left off, with stable stars Liberty Beach, Safe Voyage and El Astronaute all reported to be doing well and ready to run.

Pinatubo on comeback trail Charlie Aplleby Andrew Nelis racing

Charlie Appleby believes last season's juvenile sensation Pinatubo is bigger and stronger as the unbeaten son of Sharmadal prepares to embark on his highly anticipated Classic campaign, starting in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas. Pinatubo comes into the season following a dazzling two-year-old campaign, in which his six wins earned him a rating higher than Frankel achieved at that stage of his career. And he will look to emulate the greats when starting the season in the 2,000 Guineas, the first Classic of the  rescheduled calendar  on June 6. The Godolphin star is a top-priced 6-5 favourite for the race with Sky Bet. He is also entered in the Investec Derby – for which he is as short as 6-1 – although no plans were confirmed for targets after the Guineas.
