British racing leaders have pledged to prioritise the retention of owners and key investors as part of a new recovery plan in response to the coronavirus crisis. The plan, published on Tuesday by the British Horseracing Authority, confirms the next phase of recovery policy agreed in discussions with the Racecourse Association and owners’, jockeys’ and trainers’ representatives. It identifies nine “industry goals” – including a full resumption of racing with maximum possible attendance and “best possible ownership and spectator experience”, the continuation of safety measures and strict control of social distancing on course, a reduction of the sport’s cost base and “pursuit of immediate Levy reform”..                        Andrew Nelis Racing 

Oisin Murphy  said on Friday that the media are creating an “issue out of nothing” over the interference rules in racing. Interference has become a hot topic and again raised its head at Glorious Goodwood last week when Tilsit was allowed to keep a race despite badly impeding My Oberon in the closing stages.  Ryan Moore, the winning rider, was given a five-day ban . Plans to allow racegoers to attend the final day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival have been scrapped after the Government announced the cancellation of further pilot events for the return of crowds to sporting venues due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Sussex Downs were due to welcome a crowd of 5,000 on Saturday, which would have been the first time racegoers have been allowed on a racecourse since March. The fixture was selected as part of a series of pilot events, along with two county cricket matches and world championship snooker at The Crucible in Sheffield....                     Andrew Nelis Racing .

Owners will be allowed to attend race meetings from July 4, the British Horseracing Authority has announced. Tests events will be staged this week to see how well new protocols will work, but should all go smoothly, those involved in the Investec Derby at Epsom on Saturday will be allowed to see their horses run. Attendance will be limited to two owners per horse and they will be restricted to specific “owner zones” in line with current government guidance. The plans have been agreed by the Racecourse Association (RCA), Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) and British Horseracing Authority (BHA).                          Andrew Nelis racing 

Arizona will lead Aidan O'Brien's quest for a fourth consecutive victory in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket next week. The Ballydoyle trainer has won the colts' Classic 10 times in total and was successful 12 months ago with Magna Grecia, having struck in 2018 with Saxon Warrior and Churchill in 2017.

Jockeys and stalls handlers are among those who will be required to wear masks under the protocols drawn up by the British Horseracing Authority ahead of the planned resumption of racing on June 1. The 33-page document outlines a series of measures to be employed should racing get the Government go-ahead to return to action for the first time since March. Completion of an online education module and screening of all participants before they are allowed to attend an event form the initial stage of the protocols, with further health-related questions and temperature checks carried out before people are allowed to enter racecourses

Since the cessation of racing in Britain (March 18) and Ireland (March 24) due to the coronavirus pandemic, their respective racing authorities have devised detailed behind-closed-doors resumption plans.  The BHA is working towards  restarting on June 1 , the earliest point at which the UK government will consider a return of professional sport in line with the prime minister's phased plan to exit lockdown. In Ireland, the sport was pencilled in to return on June 29 but that date was  brought forward to June 8  by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, who stressed the importance of the industry to the economy.

Kevin Ryan is planning to start both his star sprinters, Hello Youmzain and Glass Slippers, at next month's Royal Ascot meeting. The fixture is currently scheduled to kick off on June 16, pending the sport being given Government permission to resume as hoped on June 1. Ryan is duly working towards the Berkshire showpiece with his runners, with Hello Youmzain looking to hold leading claims in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes having been third in the Commonwealth Cup 12 months ago.
