Jim Crowley is counting down the days until he will be reunited with the brilliant Battaash in the Coolmore Nunthorpe at York. It is 14 years since the former northern-based jumps rider switched codes. Exactly a decade later, he was crowned Britain’s champion Flat jockey – before being appointed number one rider to one of the sport’s most prominent owners in Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum. It has proved a fruitful association for both, particularly this year, with Crowley booting home six winners for his boss at Royal Ascot in June and more recently steering crack miler Mohaather to top-level success in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.. The Sprint Cup at Haydock is next on the agenda for Clive Cox's speedball Golden Horde. A high-class juvenile last season, the son of his trainer's former stable star Lethal Force made the perfect start to his three-year-old career by claiming Royal Ascot glory in the Commonwealth Cup. He had to make do with an honourable third when taking on his elders in the July Cup at Newmarket, before finishing a close-up fifth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.                    Andrew Nelis Racing 

Tactical remains on course to test his powers at Group One level in the Prix Morny at Deauville on Sunday week. Since finishing a promising third on his racecourse debut in early June, the Andrew Balding-trained juvenile has carried the colours of the Queen to big-race success in both the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and the July Stakes at Newmarket. Having pleased connections in a gallop on Wednesday morning, the Toronado colt is all set to head to France in a bid to provide Her Majesty with a first top-level success since Estimate's memorable triumph in the 2013 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot....                      Andrew Nelis  racing 

Tim Easterby believes the ground could dictate the outcome of the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes for his smart sprinter Art Power. The three-year-old has made giant strides this season, winning at Newcastle soon after the resumption before taking the Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap at Royal Ascot. He handled the step up to Pattern company with aplomb in Ireland, beating Jessica Harrington's classy Missisle by over six furlongs at Naas, but Easterby would love to see some rain before his date with Battaash at York.                       Andrew Nelis racing .

Cieren Fallon has been named jockey of the month for July after landing his first ever Group One victory and moving clear in the 2020 champion apprentice title race. Tue 4 Aug 2020 Denis Hogan  has been dealt a “devastating” blow with the death of crack sprinter  Sceptical . Unraced for Godolphin, the four-year-old cost just £2,800 at the sales and proved a real star for Hogan and owners Hilltop Racing. He won four races in a row, including the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Naas, before travelling to Royal Ascot for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, finishing a close third under Frankie Dettori to Hello Youmzain and Dream Of Dreams.                         Andrew Nelis Racing 

Raffle Prize is on course for an autumn return following an enforced summer break. Roger Varian has paid tribute to his "trainer's dream" and Royal Ascot winner Mountain Angel. The six-year-old was being prepared for the Group Two Sky Bet York Stakes when suffering a fatal injury in his final gallop before this weekend's race. Mountain Angel proved himself better than ever by beating the classy Sir Dragonet in the Wolferton Stakes at the Royal meeting last month - and Newmarket trainer Varian was so impressed that he was planning ahead to a possible return to Ascot in October for the Champion Stakes...                Andrew Nelis Racing .

Frankie Dettori was in unstoppable form as he continued his winning spree with the John Gosden-trained Palace Pier in the St James's Palace Stakes. Much of the pre-race attention was focused on Pinatubo, who suffered a shock defeat in the 2000 Guineas earlier this month but was sent off favourite to regain the winning thread. William Buick settled the market leader at the back of the pack in what transpired to be a fairly tactical affair, with Guineas second Wichita trying to make every yard under Ryan Moore.. .

Nando Parrado sprang a 150-1 shock in the Coventry Stakes. Beaten into fifth on his racecourse debut at Newmarket earlier this month, Clive Cox's charge showed plenty of improvement to bag this six-furlong contest. Campanelle (9-2) gave American trainer Wesley Ward another Royal Ascot win in the Queen Mary Stakes. Ward had trained 10 previous victors at the meeting and Campanelle gave him an 11th success with a gutsy performance in the five-furlong heat. Hollie Doyle became only the third female rider to partner a winner at Royal Ascot when Scarlet Dragon struck on Friday. Doyle - who already holds the record for number of winners ridden in a calendar year by a female - joins Gay Kelleway and Hayley Turner on the Ascot roll of honour. Santiago produced an improved display to give Aidan O'Brien a seventh victory in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot. The Ballydoyle handler saddled two runners in a bid to add to his previous triumphs in the Group Two feature, with Ryan Moore partnering Santiago and Frankie Dettori aboard Nobel Prize. Golden Horde made just about all the running to lift the Commonwealth Cup for Clive Cox and Adam Kirby. Off the track since being narrowly beaten in the Middle Park Stakes in September, Kirby quickly had his mount into stride. The Lir Jet (9-2) swooped late to collar long-time leader Golden Pal and grab gold in the Norfolk Stakes. Wesley Ward's American raider Golden Pal was smartly away and looked set to make every yard in the Group Two prize under Andrea Atzeni. Art Power looked the proverbial Group horse in a handicap when routing a big field in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap at Royal Ascot. Heavily supported, the grey, trained in North Yorkshire by Tim Easterby, was sent off the 6-4 favourite despite facing 20 largely unexposed rivals. A winner at York by five lengths at the end of last season, he reappeared at Newcastle on the day racing resumed with another impressive display, leaving connections with a decision to make. He had the option of taking on Group One rivals in the Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs, but given his mark was left alone following his Newcastle romp, taking on handicappers over five appealed more and the right call was made. Former champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa bounced the King Power Racing-owned colt out smartly and he was always towards the head of affairs before he began to pull clear with two furlongs to run. Dandalla stretched clear in impressive fashion to win the Albany Stakes for Karl Burke and Ben Curtis. Another to have won at Newcastle since racing resumed, Dandalla could be noted travelling well a couple of furlongs out and when Curtis asked the question, the 13-2 shot responded in style. Pulling clear in the final furlong, she easily accounted for Setarhe to earn quotes of 16-1 for next year's 1000 Guineas.

Lipizzaner and Lope Y Fernandez have been backed to strike for Ballydoyle in the Norfolk Stakes and Commonwealth Cup on day four. Paddy Power report the twice-raced Lipizzaner, drawn in stall 14, to have been supported into 11-4 (from 4) for the Group 2 two-year-old event. Lope Y Fernandez finished third to Siskin in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas a week ago and is vying for Commonwealth Cup favouritism at 9-2 (from 11-2) with Pierre Lapin. O'Brien's Royal Lytham, ridden by Pat Cosgrave, has also attracted support at big prices and is 20-1 (from 33). The progressive Hamish has been supported for Hardwicke Stakes glory with the William Haggas-trained four-year-old into a general 7-1 (from 10).
