Fujaira Prince claims the Ebor at York Andrew Nelis

Fujaira Prince followed up his Royal Ascot success with victory in York's Sky Bet Ebor Handicap. Roger Varian's grey was a rare winning favourite in one of the Flat calendar's most notoriously difficult handicaps. But just as in the Copper Horse Handicap at Ascot on his seasonal return two months ago, the 11-2 winner proved he was ahead of the assessor - this time holding off a late rally from long-time leader Glencadam Glory, who admirably outran his starting price of 25-1...                   Andrew Nelis  racing

Glowing praise for Roger Varians Angel Andrew Nelis Racing

Roger Varian has paid tribute to his "trainer's dream" and Royal Ascot winner Mountain Angel. The six-year-old was being prepared for the Group Two Sky Bet York Stakes when suffering a fatal injury in his final gallop before this weekend's race. Mountain Angel proved himself better than ever by beating the classy Sir Dragonet in the Wolferton Stakes at the Royal meeting last month - and Newmarket trainer Varian was so impressed that he was planning ahead to a possible return to Ascot in October for the Champion Stakes...                Andrew Nelis Racing .

Mountain Angel to contest the Skybet York Stakes Saturday Andrew Nelis Racing .

Roger Varian would prefer soft ground in order for Royal Ascot winner Mountain Angel to show his best form in the Sky Bet York Stakes on Saturday. The Group Two contest has attracted a field of nine, including last year's Dante winner Telecaster, who heads the market with the sponsors at 100-30 ahead of last year's winner Elarqam at 4-1. Mountain Angel relished the ease underfoot, finishing with a rare rattle to beat Sir Dragonet in the Wolferton Stakes..                    Andrew Nelis Racing .

Fujaira prince pencilled in for the Ebor York Andrew Nelis

Roger Varian will freshen up Fujaira Prince ahead of sending him straight to next month's Sky Bet Ebor at York. The lightly-raced six-year-old will be given a short break following his impressive victory in the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot, before taking aim at the valuable handicap on the Knavesmire. Though the Pivotal gelding was hit with a 10lb hike in the weights for his latest success, the Newmarket handler believes he still has more to offer..                     Andrew Nelis Racing

Mountain Angel pounces to beat the field at Ascot Andrew Nelis Racing

Roger Varian and James Doyle teamed up to win the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot in fine style with Mountain Angel. Fifth in the race to subsequent Group One hero Addeybb 12 months ago, Mountain Angel enjoyed a dream run up the inside to win in clear-cut fashion. Prince Eiji - a stablemate of the 8-1 winner - appeared to have them all on the stretch at one stage, but Doyle waited for a gap to appear on the rail and when he did he took full advantage.

Fujaira Prince clinches the Copper Horse Handicapp Ascot Andrew Nelis racing

Fujaira Prince made a triumphant return after a year off the track when running out a ready winner of the Copper Horse Handicap. The Roger Varian-trained gelding had been absent since finishing third at this meeting in 2019, but was sent off the 3-1 favourite and did not let his supporters down. Varian said: "Well done to Andrea. He gave him a great ride. It looked a tricky draw (16), but he was intent on getting out and getting a position. He was able to sit second, one off the fence..
