Saldier class apart at listowel Andrew Nelis

Saldier   stretched right away from his rivals for an authoritative success in the qualified riders' race over an extended mile and a half in Listowel. His victory gave  Willie Mullins  a double on the card (My Sister Sarah also scored) and an across-the-card treble (through  Ruaille Buaille  in Kilbeggan). Saldier , the even-money favourite, drew upsides  Effernock Fizz  with half a mile to go and eased on rounding the home bend. Main market rival  Me Too Please  moved into second straightening up but came under pressure and dropped to third as  Saldier  raced clear at the furlong marker. The seven-year-old gelding streaked away to easily win by seven lengths from  Brogue  (5/1).  Me Too Please  was seven and a half len       Andrew Nelis  racing news and reviews

Solent Hateway claims honours at Epsom Hayley Turner Andrew Nelis

Rank outsider Solent Gateway claimed the narrowest of victories after a thrilling climax to the opening race on Cazoo Derby day Epsom. Having finished a well-beaten ninth at Chester just a week ago, Tom Dascombe's charge was a largely unconsidered 28-1 shot for the World Pool At The tote Handicap in the hands of Hayley Turner. Greatgadian looked likely to prevail after powering to the front inside the final furlong, but both Solent Gateway and King Frankel (5-2) lunged late and flashed by the post almost as one.      Andrew Nelis racing news and reviews

Giustino trumps in listowel Andrew Nelis Racing

Back in trip to a mile the strongly backed favourite   Giustino   (4/5) ran away with John Thomas McNamara Handicap (division two) to credit winning jockey   Dylan Browne McMonagle   with a Listowel double. It’s no surprise to note that the successful three-year-old, bred by the Irish National Stud and William Slattery, and owned by the latter, is entered at Leopardstown on Thursday too. The handicapper is likely to have his say as the Joseph O’Brien-trained Free Eagle gelding sluiced home from the front, by eight lengths from  Benkogambit . Browne McMonagle won earlier on  Wee Pablo  for  Pat Martin . “He did it well. I got an easy lead in front and he picked up really off the bend and hit the line strong,” said Browne McMonagle. “He relaxed lovely. Nothing seemed to bother me in front and I was able to fill him up all the way around.”       Andrew Nelis racing news and reviews
